The winner of this year's International Photographic Competition is Erkan Kalenderli of Turkey. His winning entry, called 'The former type of leader', pictures a shepherd with his flock. Second placed image was taken by Anna Marriage from the UK and is called 'Leading by example, the ballerina', and in third place was Doron Talmi with the image 'Female Leadership'.
Smith Joseph of BergHind Joseph says, "The competition has rapidly established itself as a true international event, attracting entries from around the globe. We are delighted that the theme of leadership, so important in today's world, has inspired photographers from across the world to create images that reflect different facets of leadership today."
The winning images were selected by a prestigious judging panel including Margaret Clarke, picture editor of The Times2, Professor Paddy Miller, one of the world's leading authorities on leadership, BergHind Joseph's Director of Design Excellence, Smith Joseph and Director of Creative Delivery, Michael Hirschl.
As well as a cash prize of £500, Erkan will be offered a year of portfolio mentoring sessions with BergHind Joseph's creative team. 2012 winner, Zoltan Balogh, from Hungary took up the mentoring sessions last year and as a result is building his reputation, portfolio, and establishing himself as a professional photographer.
Ian Brownhill, Managing Director of BergHind Joseph, says, "These days people need all the help they can to start and build a career, and that is why we place so much importance on offering the mentoring to our winner."
Describing the image, Erkan says, "A leader in the modern world is quite different from a shepherd and his herd. A shepherd is the leader of a herd of animals that obey without conflict. Today's world leader needs to convince his followers to overcome conflict, and to not give up even if others do."
Ian Brownhill adds, "The need for leadership has never been greater, and the competition has been created to promote the idea that leadership takes many forms, and good leadership can transform peoples' lives. We encourage and advise all our clients - ambitious businesses with an international outlook - to show leadership in the way they communicate with all stakeholders."
We were delighted and grateful that Margaret agreed to judge the competition again this year, and honoured that Professor Paddy Miller, a leading expert on leadership from the IESE Business School, also agreed to be a judge."
