BergHind Joseph’s photo competition winners announced
Creative communications agency BergHind Joseph has announced that Balogh Zoltan, from Hungary, is the winner of its annual photographic competition. His image called 'Pyramid' was chosen by the judging panel, which included Margaret Clarke, picture editor of The Times2, Andy Wilson, Professional Photographer, Michael Hirschl, Project Director and Co-Creative Director at BergHind Joseph; and Stuart Littlewood, Designer ahead of more than one hundred others that had been submitted.
Michael Hirschl says, "We have been overwhelmed by the quality of the entries, which have come in from across the world. We wanted to create an international competition that celebrates the importance of photography in communicating a message, and thanks to everyone who has participated, we have achieved our objective. Choosing a winner has proved to be exceptionally challenging and there was a great deal of discussion as we went through all the entries. Ultimately though, Balogh's submission was a clear winner."
Runner up was David Shaw with his image 'Palestinians gather on a roof', and Susan Furber in third place with her image 'Determination'. The winning entries can be viewed on the BergHind Joseph website.
The judges comments were:
Pyramid
"Captured at the perfect moment with clear focus and excellent lighting and contrast."
"Clearly demonstrates leadership and collaboration."
"Love the balance and placement of light."
Palestinians gather on a roof
"Great editorial shot and good use of space - clearly plenty of effort has been put into this shot."
"Good composition with sunset and light and silhouettes adding to creativity."
Determination
"Great level of detail."
"Strong. A well photographed subject but shot from the front rather than the usual side view - this adds more drama."
The competition theme was 'leadership', and entrants were asked to enter categories which fall under this idea: Motivation, Collaboration, Promotion, Achievement, Initiative, Decisiveness, Engagement, Inspiration. The judges individually awarded marks according to how well the image illustrated the theme of leadership, technical merit, creativity and composition. The marks were then collated to find the winner. Bolagh will take away a prize of £500 photography vouchers and a year of portfolio mentoring sessions –courtesy of BergHind Joseph- whilst David has won £250 of vouchers, and Susan £100.
Ian Brownhill, BergHind Joseph's Managing Director says, "As an agency that helps ambitious businesses with an international outlook to build stronger reputations, the photographic competition is an excellent platform for us. Businesses need to show leadership in the way they communicate with staff, customers and stakeholders and we see that imagery plays an important role in that and that is why we developed the competition. I'm very grateful to Margaret and Andy for agreeing to be judges. Margaret sees hundreds of pictures every week, and knows what images capture a viewer's imagination. Her input has been invaluable. Andy earns his living from photography, and his professional judgement is highly regarded too. We are already planning for next year's competition and hope to see again some great pictures from across the world."
