AoP-Student

Want to get your foot on the photography ladder? Enter the AOP Students' Awards and you’ll be heading in the right direction. The AOP Student Photographer of the Year will receive:-

A full day’s work experience with a high-profile AOP member, plus extensive press coverage and we may use your winning images to promote the AOP Students Awards and AOP Student Membership.

In addition to the AOP Student Photographer of the Year, two runners up will be given Merit Awards. All finalists will have their winning images exhibited in a central London location. AOP Student members can enter for £3 per Single entry and £6 per Series entry. For non-members it costs £6 per Single entry and £12 per Series entry.

Not a member? No problem, go on to Student Area of the AOP's website to find out how to join. AOP Student membership is as little as £30.00 pa.

The Categories

You can submit unlimited entries, across the following four categories:

Lifestyle & Portraiture (Single & Series)

Includes portraits and lifestyle images featuring people and/or animals as the primary element.

Fashion & Beauty (Single & Series)

Includes fashion and beauty-style images.

Landscape, Interiors & Exteriors (Single & Series)

Includes landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, interiors, exteriors and architecture, which may or may not include people, animals or objects as a secondary element.

Still Life (Singles & Series)

Includes still life and food shots where inanimate objects feature as the primary element.

Complies with the Bill of Rights

This competition meets all the standards set out in the Bill of Rights For Artists

Competitions which meet all the standards set out in the Bill of Rights For Artists do not do any of the following -

  • claim copyright
  • claim exclusive use
  • seek waiving of moral rights
  • fail to give a credit for all free usage
  • add, alter, or remove metadata from submissions
  • seek usage rights other than for promoting the contest and no other purpose. Note that a book, posters, cards, or a calendar are seen as legitimate ways of promoting the contest and defraying costs
  • seek free usage rights in excess of 3 years
  • use the submissions commercially without the entrant's agreement, and such commercial usage is to be subject to a freely negotiated license independently of the competition.
  • make it a condition of winning that an entrant must sign a commercial usage agreement
  • fail to publish all documents on the competition website that an entrant may have to sign
  • fail to name the judges for this or last year's competition
  • fail to explicitly state all the organisations who will acquire rights to the submissions
  • set a closing date more than 18 months after the contest launch date
  • fail to make clear statements of rights claimed and how submissions are used.
